Description
"Coupe signée de Brygos (Musée du Louvre)"--lettered on border. The artist who decorated this cup by Brygos, a famous ancient Greek potter, has left a powerful record of the desperation and terror which occurred when a city fell to an enemy army. The Greek army has broken into Troy, and a Greek warrior in full armor stands over a wounded Trojan man, whose half-dressed state shows that he has been sleeping and unaware. A woman tries to defend the man with a wooden pestle used for pounding grain. A Trojan woman and boy look on in fear from the left and right sides of the scene.
