Conversation between Gerry Franklin and Walter Terry, on September 17, 1975, as part of Terry's research for his book: Ted Shawn, father of American dance: a biography (New York: Dial Press, c1976). Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 30 minutes). Gerry Franklin, a psychologist who studied dance at Jacob's Pillow [in Lee, Massachusetts], and Walter Terry discuss the relationships, from a psychological viewpoint, between Ted Shawn and Shawn's mother; with Ruth St. Denis; with women generally; with Barton Mumaw; Franklin's impressions of Shawn at the time he was a student at Jacob's Pillow; Shawn's need for approval; more on his relationship with St. Denis including from an artistic viewpoint [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2]. Streaming audio file 2 (approximately 30 minutes). Gerry Franklin and Walter Terry continue to speak about Ted Shawn from a psychological viewpoint including his vanity about his physical appearance; his choreography and his personality including its combination of arrogance, aloofness, and insecurity; his charisma [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 3].
