Sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by extraneous noise including "tape hiss" and occasional short gaps, but the speakers' voices are easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Dennis Wayne conducted by John Gruen on August 2, 1975, as research for an article in The New York Times. The article, entitled A feisty young dancer with a company of his own, appeared in The New York Times on August 31, 1975. Streaming file (approximately 35 minutes). Dennis Wayne speaks with John Gruen about his new company Dancers including the conflict this creates with responsibilities to American Ballet Theatre; the works Dancers will be performing at its upcoming premieres at Jacob's Pillow and City Center [of Music and Drama]; reasons he created this company; the dancers; more on balancing his responsibilities to American Ballet Theatre and to Dancers including his discussions with Lucia Chase; roles he expects to dance next season with American Ballet Theatre; Norman Walker's work Lazarus; economic aspects of the company including the support of Joanne Woodward; more on the repertoire including Cliff Keuter's work Murder of George Keuter; more on his reasons for creating his own company; how he feels about his own dancing; his personal life; more on his upcoming roles at American Ballet Theatre and the repertoire for Dancers.
