Sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by extraneous noise including "tape hiss" and occasional short gaps. However, for the most part, the speakers' voices are easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Burton Taylor conducted by John Gruen on July 16,1975 in New York City, as research for an article in Dance Magazine. The article, entitled Close-up: Burton Taylor, appeared in the November 1975 issue of Dance Magazine. Streaming file 1 (approximately 48 minutes). Burton Taylor speaks with John Gruen about the Joffrey Ballet [briefly]; his family background and training, in particular, with Leon Danelian and [Suny] Seda; his year at college; his experience training student dancers in a local production of Song of Norway; his eight years with American Ballet Theatre; some of his roles at the company including in Antony Tudor's Pillar of fire; his reasons for leaving the company; his year in Atlanta; an anecdote about his substituting for Edward Villella in a New York City Opera production of Prince Igor; joining the Joffrey Ballet [Joffrey Ballet of Chicago as of 1995]; some of his roles [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
