Interview with Ann Hutchinson and Myrna Shedlin conducted by James Lyon as host for radio station WNYC for its series, Today in ballet; recorded and broadcast on December 9, 1960. Ann Hutchinson was president of the Dance Notation Bureau, New York; Myrna Shedlin was chairman of the board of the Dance Notation Bureau. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 27 minutes). James Lyons introduces his guests Anne Hutchinson and Myrna Shedlin; Hutchinson and Shedlin speak with James Lyons about notating the dances in the musical comedies, Camelot, Kiss me Kate, and My fair lady; what dance notation is; Labanotation; notating George Balanchine's ballets, in particular Theme and variations; the reasons more ballets are not notated; the use of dance notation for copyright protection and royalties; Balanchine's ballet Serenade; the activities and goals of the Dance Notation Bureau; works by Balanchine and others that have been notated in whole or in part [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
