Description
Interviews with Nadezhda Pavlova and Vi︠a︡cheslav Gordeev, conducted by Marian Horosko, in part through an interpreter, in New York City, on August 29, 1979 (streaming audio file 1: approximately 25 minutes) and September 15, 1979 (streaming audio file 2: approximately 11 minutes; Gordeev only). The interviews appear to have been conducted in connection with Horosko's article, Pavlova and Gordeyev:The new generation of Bolshoi dancers, in the November 1979 issue of Dance magazine. Streaming audio file 1, August 29, 1979 (approximately 24 minutes). [Begins abruptly.] Nadezhda Pavlova and her husband, Vi︠a︡cheslav Gordeev, speak (primarily through an interpreter) with Marian Horosko briefly about various topics including: the manner in which their roles are determined; Pavlova's preference for [Marina] Semenova's coaching to that of [Galina Sergeevna] Ulanova; Pavlova's birth in Ufa and childhood training in Perm; her participation in the All-Union ballet competition in Moscow [gap]; Pavlova's and Gordeev's personal relationship; Pavlova's great popularity in her native region; their warm reception by New York audiences; their interest in performing the work of American choreographers, such as Robert Joffrey. Streaming audio file 2, September 15, 1979 (approximately 12 minutes). [Begins abruptly.] Vi︠a︡cheslav Gordeev speaks (in part, through an interpreter) with Marian Horosko briefly about various topics including: the separate classes for boys; his musical preferences; artistic input from his friends when learning a new role; his introduction to ballet through television; performing with Nadezhda Pavlova [ends abruptly].
