Interview with George Skibine, Nathalie Krassovska, and Igor Youskevitch conducted by Suzanne Shelton on February 15, 1975 in Dallas, Texas as background for her article entitled: The Russians are here: when the Ballet Russe stopped touring, many of its dancers got off the bus in Texas (cataloged as: *MGZR Shelton, Suzanne. [Clippings - Works by] Texas Monthly, v 3 no 6, June 1975, p 49-50, 82. illus). Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 46 minutes). George Skibine, Nathalia Krassovska, and Igor Youskevitch discuss with Suzanne Shelton, their careers, the Ballet Russe [Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo], and related subjects including the history of the Ballet Russe; Michel Fokine, Sergei Denham, working with Leonide Massine and the Massine style; differences in generations of dancers; influence of the Ballet Russe in Texas; why Ballet Russe dancers settled in Texas; the life of the Ballet Russe dancers and intra-company relationships while on tour; Olga Preobrazhenska's school where the three met; the Ballet Russe repertoire and their preferred roles. George Skibine, Nathalia Krassovska, and Igor Youskevitch tell anecdotes about each other; they discuss Skibine's and Youskevitch's military service and return to dancing; living in Texas; the life of a dancer; the decision to retire from dancing; seeing Anna Pavlova on film; dancing for the camera including an anecdote about Alexandra Danilova; Bronislava NIjinska; reasons for the disbanding of the Ballet Russe.
