Description
Interview with Alma Hawkins conducted by Christina L. Schlundt on July 14, 1971 in Los Angeles, California, for the archives of the Dance Division of the AAHPER [American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; later American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance]. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 33 minutes). Alma Hawkins speaks with Christina Schlundt about dance in an academic environment. Topics include: dance students today as compared with those of the past including herself; her teaching career; and the program at UCLA [University of California at Los Angeles]. [From approximately 27:50 to approximately 29:50 there is a significant drop in volume.] Streaming audio file 2 (approximately 33 minutes; however, the interview ends at approximately 18:45 minutes, and the remainder of streaming audio file 2 consists of ambient noise or is blank). Alma Hawkins continues to speak with Christina Schlundt about dance in an academic environment, in particular the graduate program in dance at University of California, Los Angeles; the role of the university in dance; and her goals.
