Description
Interview with Cynthia Gregory conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on June 7, 1978 for the radio program Ballet Beat on WNYU-FM and broadcast on Oct. 24, 1978. Streaming audio file (approximately 32 minutes). Cynthia Gregory speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about dancing with American Ballet Theatre, including her first solo roles; her favorite roles; compares dancing particular roles in classical ballets with dancing particular roles in modern ballets; her early ballet training and performances in Los Angeles and subsequently with the San Francisco Ballet; the circumstances of her joining American Ballet Theatre, including the reasons she did not join New York City Ballet; the reasons for her sudden retirement from American Ballet Theatre; her second marriage, to John Hemminger; her return to dancing at American Ballet Theatre; her differences with the company regarding a potential partner; the current lack of new roles being created for her; working with choreographers, including Eliot Feld in At midnight; working with George Balanchine.
