Interviews with Ted Shawn and Maria Alba conducted by Jeanne Marshall at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Lee, Massachusetts. Broadcast in August 1971 by the Voice of America on its program Spotlight, with Fred Weiss as editor. Streaming audio file (approximately 17 minutes). Music and introduction, by unidentified speaker, of the program, Spotlight. Fred Weiss, editor, speaks briefly about the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and Ted Shawn as an introduction to the (previously recorded) interview with Ted Shawn conducted by Jeanne Marshall at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, in Lee, Massachusetts; in the interview, Ted Shawn speaks about the enormous growth and decentralization of dance in the United States including the spread of regional ballet companies; his thoughts on his approaching 80th birthday; the divine nature of dance. [Ends at approximately 9 minutes; followed by music and closing remarks by unidentified speaker.] Interview (previously recorded) with Maria Alba conducted by Jeanne Marshall at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Lee, Massachusetts; in the interview, Maria Alba speaks about Spanish dance (briefly) and the dance program she presented at Jacob's Pillow [August 10-14, 1971] including the work Pictures from Spain [Fantasia Espanola]; the interactive nature of audience response and Spanish dance; her choreographic process.
