Description
Interview with Antoinette Sibley conducted by John Gruen, as host, for broadcast on September 6, 1976 by radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series The sound of dance. Streaming audio file (approximately one hour). [Begins abruptly.] John Gruen, as host, and Antoinette Sibley speak about the film The turning point; Sibley's becoming a mother; her husband, Panton Corbett; her return to dancing; the roles she dances in The turning point [a recording of an excerpt of the music by Sergey Prokofiev for the ballet Romeo and Juliet is played]; Sibley and Gruen speak about Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet including how her interpretation of Juliet changed after she had taken time off; Natalia Makarova including Makarova's remarks about dancing with Antony Dowell; Makarova's status as guest artist with the Royal Ballet; her own partnership with Dowell; Mikhail Baryshnikov; receiving the C.B.E. [a recording of the Meditation from Thaïs by Jules Massenet is played]; roles created for Sibley; Frederick Ashton's Jazz calendar, in particular the music; other Ashton works including Enigma variations; her thoughts on her career and her family; more on The turning point [several short gaps occur in the final approximate two minutes of the recording].
