Walter Terry speaks about the dancer's body; recorded on October 31, 1965 and broadcast by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series, Invitation to dance. [Music and introduction by unidentified person of Walter Terry.] Walter Terry speaks about the body as the dancer's instrument of artistic expression; the influence of Ruth St. Denis' and Isadora Duncan's costume innovations on the puritanical attitude toward the body typical in the United States at the time; the costume reforms of Marie Camargo and Marie Sallé; nudity in modern dance; expressive dance movement, as seen in Martha Graham's Night journey and her Letter to the world; Doris Humphrey's choreographic theories and her dance, Ritmo jondo; abstract dance movement. [Final approximate 7 minutes consists of closing announcements and music.]
