Description
Statement on Charles Weidman recorded by Eva Desca Garnet in for use by Silvia (Pelt) Richards in her Ph.D. thesis at the University of Texas, probably in the mid- to late 1960s, and not after 1971. Streaming file (approximately 18 minutes). Eva Desca Garnet, a former member of the Humphrey-Weidman Company, speaks about Charles Weidman, primarily with respect to the period between 1936-1940; his roles including the lover in Doris Humphrey's With my red fires; his influence on modern dance choreography and dance instruction; his work Kinetic pantomime; Weidman as a source of inspiration to his students and company members; his occasional displays of favoritism and competiveness as an exception to his usual behavior; an anecdote about Weidman and Ted Shawn and his Male Dancers; his extraordinary recall of movement; her view that he has not received the recognition and acclaim he deserves.
