Interview with Jean Erdman, modern dancer, and Ezra Laderman, composer, conducted by James Lyon as host; recorded on March 16, 1957 and broadcast by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series, Today in ballet. Streaming audio file (approximately 28 minutes). [Introductory remarks and music.] James Lyons introduces his guests Jean Erdman and Ezra Laderman; Jean Erdman speaks about her background in Honolulu (Hawaii) and the hula. Ezra Laderman speaks about his background in Brooklyn (N.Y.), how he first met Erdman and the beginnings of their collaboration, with Erdman's work Duet for flute and dancer. Erdman and Laderman speak about the nature and development of their collaboration, especially the close relationship between dramatic content, choreography, and rhythmic motifs; their collaboration on Erdman's work Harlequinade including Laderman's discussion of his work Chamber concerto and Erdman's discussion of the work's dramatic content.
