DescriptionWalter Terry introduces Rebekah Harkness, president of the Rebekah Harkness Foundation, noting her recent founding of a ballet company, the Harkness Ballet, and of a school, Harkness House for Ballet Arts (New York, N.Y.), as well as her background as a composer and a patron of the arts. Rebekah West Harkness speaks with Terry about her development as a composer and her musical studies; an anecdote about her dancing in public and her father; her varied activities in support of the art of ballet; her goals in founding the Harkness Ballet Company and Harkness House; the physical facilities, faculty, curriculum and trainee program at Harkness House; and her own composition, Macumba suite, to which Alvin Ailey is choreographing a ballet of the same title for the Harkness Ballet. [The recording ends with Terry's stating that he is about to air an excerpt from the music Macumba suite.]
