Interview with Rebecca Wright conducted by John Gruen, as host on radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series The sound of dance, for broadcast on May 31, 1976. Streaming file 1 (approximately one hour). [Introductory remarks by Oscar Buhler.] John Gruen introduces his guest, Rebecca Wright; Gruen and Wright discuss her roles at the Joffrey Ballet including Titania in Frederick Ashton's The dream; her reasons for leaving the Joffrey Ballet and joining American Ballet Theatre; her experience so far at American Ballet Theatre; her upcoming roles including in a new production of The sleeping beauty, staged by Mary Skeaping [an excerpt of a recording of The sleeping beauty, by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky, is played]; her role in Agnes de Mille's Rodeo; her background and training including the influence of Robert Joffrey; reasons a number of dancers have recently left the Joffrey Ballet; Agnes de Mille's new ballet Texas fourth; casting at American Ballet Theatre; additional upcoming roles including in Le sacre du printemps [Rite of spring] with Baryshnikov; [an excerpt of a recording of music composed by Aaron Copland for Rodeo, the Buckaroo section, is played]; why she dances; [an excerpt of a recording of the music composed by Aaron Copland for Rodeo, the Hoedown section, is played]; Wright, a soloist, speaks about working with principal dancers at American Ballet Theatre, including Makarova, Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Marcia Haydée, and Ivan [Nagy]; Gruen's closing remarks; [music and closing remarks of Oscar Buhler].
