Sound quality is good. The recording is marred by "tape hiss."
Description
This recording, which consists primarily of three interviews, was made for broadcast by radio station WNYC-FM, New York on its series The world of dance, on August 13, 1967. Marian Horosko, as host, plays two pre-recorded interviews, the first with Eliot Feld (approximately four minutes), and the second with Cynthia Gregory (approximately 3:30 minutes). These interviews are followed by a live interview with Matteo conducted by Alvin H. Reiss, as host (approximately 16 minutes). Streaming file (first approximately eight minutes). [Music and introductory remarks by unidentified announcer followed by Marian Horosko's introductory remarks.] Eliot Feld (in a pre-recorded interview) speaks with Marian Horosko about his commission to create a ballet (entitled Harbinger) for American Ballet Theatre; Cynthia Gregory (in a pre-recorded interview) speaks with Horosko about learning [the role of Odette/Odile in] Swan lake, for which she is the fifth understudy; a typical day when touring with American Ballet Theatre; her husband. Streaming file (from approximately 8:00 minutes to 24:29 minutes). Alvin H. Reiss, as host, introduces his guest Matteo; Matteo speaks about his new company, the Indo-American Dance Group [Indo-American Dance Company] including its origins in his classes at the High School of Performing Arts; training Western students in Indian and other Asian dance techniques; his own background and training, in various dance forms; performing Indian dances in India; more about the company, including its first professional engagement, at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival; its composition; the musical accompaniment; its favorable critical reception; the future of the company; the repertoire; the backgrounds of the dancers; performing ethnic dance for an American audience [music and closing remarks by unidentified announcer].
