The sound quality is good overall. The recording is marred by extraneous noise and occasional short gaps.
Description
Capezio Award ceremony honoring Alexandra Danilova; recorded on February 18, 1958; broadcast by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series, Today in ballet. Speakers include Walter Terry, as moderator, Anatole Chujoy, Greer Garson, Alexandra Danilova, and Ben Sommers. Streaming audio file (approximately 25 minutes). Walter Terry speaks about the Capezio Dance Award including prior recipients; he names the members of the Capezio Dance Award committee. Anatole Chujoy introduces Greer Garson; Garson speaks about Alexandra Danilova including her background and the first time she saw Danilova perform, in London; Greer reads aloud some passages about Danilova from a book by Walter Terry as well as a congratulatory telegram from Ted Shawn and the award citation. Danilova accepts the award with a brief speech. Ben Sommers closes the ceremony with some brief remarks.
