Sarita Allen speaks with Elinor Rogosin about identifying with the roles she dances [as a member of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater], for example in George Faison's work Gazelle; the shift from abstraction to emotion in Alvin Ailey's work Streams; learning a new role including Ailey's use of assistants to teach his works; Allen's training and how she came to join Alvin Ailey Dance Theater; working with Ailey; touring overseas including the strong and favorable audience response; the dancers in the company including their overall high morale; the company's repertory including its commercial appeal and succes; the effect of deadlines on the quality of new repertory; her gratitude that she has had the chance to dance in so many different choreographers' works; her thoughts on her future as a dancer [ends abruptly].
