Description
Interview with Hans Brenaa on the Royal Danish Ballet conducted by Marian Horosko as host. Recorded on January 8, and broadcast on February 10, 1969 by radio station WBAI, New York City on its series, Dance, New York. Mr. Brenaa was in New York to stage August Bournonville's Conservatoriet for the Joffrey Ballet. Streaming audio file (approximately 27 minutes). Marian Horosko introduces her guest, Hans Brenaa; Hans Brenaa speaks about the repertoire of the Royal Danish Ballet [Kongelige Danske ballet] in 1960; August Bournonville; the Romantic era of ballet; Bournonville's ballet, Conservatoriet; other works by Bournonville; Brenaa's own background and training, beginning with the Royal Danish Ballet school; government subsidy of ballet in Denmark; ballet on television in Denmark; the audience for ballet in the United States; teaching Bournonville style to the Joffrey Ballet dancers; his re-discovery of the pas de deux choreographed by Bournonville for [Giacomo Rossini's] opera William Tell; the Royal Danish Ballet's frequent domestic tours; modern ballet and modern dance in Denmark; Horosko's closing remarks.
