Description
This program includes a panel discussion about two new pieces by choreographer Pam Tanowitz, as well as performances of the dances by Tanowitz's Open 24 Hours Dance Company. The first piece, titled Monument, is dedicated to Tanowitz's late mentor Viola Farber, and choreographed to Arcangelo Corelli's Trio Sonatas. The second, Informal, with a new score by Dan Siegler, was commissioned by Works & process and receives its premiere during the program. In it, Open 24 Hours Dance Company members Anne Lentz and Rashaun Mitchell are joined by New York City Ballet soloist Tom Gold. The panelists discuss Tanowitz's focus on repetition and variation of steps, her choreographic collaboration with the dancers, and Siegler's emphasis on rhythm in composing for dance. The program also includes a demonstration of Tanowitz's process, which often involves inversion of dance phrases.
