Description
Scene from an unidentified ballet, possibly in performance at the Paris Opéra. At center stage, three pairs of men and women are dancing, each couple striking a different pose. The men are dressed in sixteen-century style, while the women wear knee-length tutus. At right, a fourth man in a plumed hat seems to converse with two women. The female corps de ballet fills the background of the stage. The scenery depicts trees, some of them draped in red; classical architecture; and urns. Three bouquets, perhaps meant for the three women at center, lie in the foreground.
