DescriptionTwo leaves from the Parisian journal La Caricature of May 1883. On the recto is the journal's cover, with a color illustration headed "Excelsior, L'Eden-Theatre, par Draner," and signed at lower right "[Charles?] Fernique sc." On the verso is a double-page spread titled "Quelques costumes du ballet 'Excelsior,' par Draner." This b&w composite drawing depicts twenty-seven labeled figures, some partially obscured, from the Ballet des Nations which took place in Excelsior's penultimate scene. Appropriately, many of the images represent national or ethnic costumes, but characters such as Electricité, La Lumière, La Valeur, and Le Commerce are also included.
