Parts 1-2, 4 (00-12:51 minutes). Lewis Archibald, a journalist who wrote for the magazine "Downtown," interviews English actor Michael Caine. Caine talks about his childhood, his family background, acting career, and the roles he played in various productions in Europe and the United States, such as a Milo Tindle in the 1972 movie "Sleuth," Blair Maynard in the 1980 film "The island," and Sidney Bruhl in the 1982 thriller "Deathtrap" based on Ira Levin's play of the same name, directed by Sidney Lumet from a screenplay by Levin and Jay Presson Allen. He also discusses his personal and professional relationships with various film directors such as Sidney Lumet and explains acting techniques he uses for different scenes in the films. Parts 3 and 4 (13:00-31:34 minutes). Lewis Archibald interviews English actress Maggie Smith. Smith talks about her childhood and her family, and about her extensive, varied career in stage, film and television since her European stage debut in 1952. She speaks about the roles she played in various productions in Europe and the United States, such as Patty Terwilliger Smith in the 1968 film "Hot millions,” Dora Charleston in the 1976 American mystery comedy film "Murder by death," written by Neil Simon and directed by Robert Moore, and Diana Barrie in the 1978 American comedy film "California suite," directed by Herbert Ross. (The screenplay by Neil Simon is based on his play of the same title). She also discusses her personal and professional relationships with various film directors.
