DescriptionSheridan Morley, BBC radio host, observes theatrical life in New York, announces various new musicals that started their run on Broadway, New York, in 1990, and compares them to West End productions in London. He also interviews people who were related to or personally involved in these productions, such as Clive Hirschhorn, film and theater critic for the British Sunday Express newspaper, who talks about musicals derived from old films: Phantom of the Opera, Grand Hotel, Meet me in St. Louis, and City of Angels; with Larry Gelbart and Cy Coleman, the author of the book and the composer of the musical City of Angels; Ruth Brown, the star-singer of the musical revue Black and blue; Joan Brickhill, the choreographer, and Christopher Scott, the singer of the musical Meet Me in St. Louis; Kevin Colson, the singer from Aspects of love; with Steve Barton, who played the role of Raoul and Phantom in both, New York and London productions of the musical The Phantom of the Opera, and Gillian Lynne, the choreographer of the musical; and with Gerald Schoenfeld, the chairman of the Shubert Organization, the oldest theatrical organization in the world. Excerpts from the musicals: West Side Story, City of Angels, Black and blue, Meet me in St. Louis, Aspects of love and Cats were played during the program.
