Biographical/historical: Honoré Daumier, the French lithographer, draftsman, and painter, was known for his scathing social commentary. He contributed many caricatures and cartoons to Le Charivari.
Biographical/historical: Le Charivari, an illustrated newspaper, was published in Paris from 1833 to 1937. Though its original aim was political commentary, it turned to more generalized satire after an official ban on political caricature.
