Although the prints are signed on stone with the name "White," the artist's full name has not been identified.
At top of both prints: Re. de Nouvelle-Castille.
Acquisition: Gift; Lillian Moore.
Biographical/historical: These prints may have been published as part of Edmé Jean Pigal's Collection de costumes des diverses provinces de l'Espagne, lith. d'après les dessins originaux par Pigal, which appeared ca. 1825. Other prints from this collection, depicting characteristic costumes from different regions of Spain, may be viewed online at the Biblioteca Digital de Castilla y Léon. Pigal, a French painter, draughtsman, and lithographer, was a prolific creator of pictorial commentaries on Parisian society of his time.

Description
Two prints, each depicting the full-length figure of a Spanish dancer. Both are captured in movement, castanets in hand. The woman gazes downward towards her right foot as she raises her right arm over her head. The man gazes downward at his left foot and crosses his left arm over his body.
