Description
The interview is probably recorded for a future broadcast. It traces Thomas's career from the starting point of his interest in conducting to the current position of leading the Buffalo Orchestra. Thomas discusses conductors who influenced him the most (Serge Koussevitzky, Leopold Stokowski, Dimitri Mitropoulos, Otto Klemperer, and above all, Wilhelm Furtwängler), the components required to have a successful performance, the importance of performing for an educated audience, his approach to learning the composers' style by performing their lesser known works before getting to their master works, and style and tonality of the music of Brahms, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Sibelius.
