Biographical/historical: The tarantella is an Italian folk dance and musical form said to be named after the region of Taranto and/or after the insect called the tarantula or wolf spider, the effects of whose venomous bite were supposedly counteracted by frenzied dancing.
Funding: Purchased with funds from the Committee for the Jerome Robbins Dance Division.
Acquisition: Purchase; Norman Crider, Feb. 1970
