Anna Sokolow discusses the first film to be shown entitled, Lament for the death of a bullfighter; her experience as an artist in Mexico in 1939; description of a bullfight and how it inspired this work; dance in the 1950's; growing up in New York City on the Lower East Side; description of the choreographic work, Rooms (1954) and how each chair represents a separate room; during the Question & Answer session, Sokolow talks about her company which included dancers, Jack Ward, Jeff Duncan, and Ze'eva Cohen; explains what movement means to her; her early life in New York as part of a Russian Jewish family; the Workers Dance League created because of the Trade Union performances; Sokolow's story of how she got to perform in Mexico; talks about her work, From the Diaries of Franz Kafka; her experience in Israel in 1953 with Jerome Robbins; her own creative process and working with musicians, Luciano Berio and Edgard Varese; working with Martha Graham and how she left the company; how Louis Horst commented on her work, Lyric Suite; discusses old and new modern dance with mention of past greats including Balanchine, Ashton, Robbins, and Tudor; her artist friends including Jane Dudley, May O'Donnell, and Sophie Maslow; final comments with Susan Hess.
