Statement of responsibility: This performance was videotaped by the Jerome Robbins Archive of the Recorded Moving Image of the Dance Collection of The New York Public Library with the cooperation of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, Badenya Organizing Committee, Mamadou Niang, John Jay College Theater, The City University of New York.

Description
Performance of a work titled Strategic zig zags: celebrating Samory's tap tap on the French colonial drumheads. The work consists of text and music ; there is no dance content. According to the program, Almamy Samory Turay (also known as Samori Toure) "was the greatest West African leader of the 19th century -- 'the Napoleon of the Sudan' -- and the finest example of African dignity expressed in resistance."
