[15 leaves excised] see below: (pencil 62): fragment, upside down: "It may be as well if first of all I should [sic] some account first of off my own species and sanity..." laid in: 1 double leaf: observations by John and Henry Thoreau. 13 leaves: (pencil 63-87): A Walk to Wachusett (q.v.). 11 leaves: (pencil 20-1): starting at back and upside down, reported bird behavior (Peabody and Nuttall); the months, with bird observations. laid in: 1 leaf: HDT observations.
Content: Throughout the book, plants were laid in to be pressed and preserved, many with scraps of paper with botanical or common name in HDT's hand (49 items now removed to manuscript boxes).
