Description
As soon as he learned of the mischiefs in their part of the country he returned to town; the Governor's letter to Col. [Thomas] Ellison will acquaint him that the Assembly has decided to raise a force, in conjunction with Pennsylvania and New Jersey, sufficient to rout the Indians out of their lurking holes; if Pennsylvania refuse to join, New York and New Jersey will act alone; himself, [James] Alexander, and [William] Smith have recommended Glazier to the Governor, who desires to give him command of all the New York forces; urges him to accept, for the good of the Colony, as they have no man of more experience; in the postscript of the Governor's orders to the colonels will be found directions to burn all the woods; this is Colden's advice to prevent the Indians from doing the same.
