Content: "Panzerschiff" (armored ship) was the official German designation for the heavy cruisers popularly referred to by Allied journalists as "pocket battleships", like the famous "Graf Spee". These had diesel, rather than steam, engines to give them long range as commerce raiders. Note the distinctive leather protective suits worn by the crew.
