Content: Probably a reproduction from a book. On the verso of the print, which bears the page? number 203, is text, which begins "Willie, we have missed you." A brief dialog is followed by the statement: "Mr. Gladstone made his first visit to his constituents at Greenwich, October 28th--1871."
Biographical/historical: The English illustrator and painter John Tenniel is probably best known for his illustrations for Lewis Carroll's books Alice's adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the looking glass (1872). He also contributed satirical cartoons to the British humor magazine Punch. Gladstone was said to be one of his favorite subjects.
