This print is listed as no. 1289 in the Journal général de l'imprimerie et de la librairie, issue 86, parts 1-2, 1897, published in Paris by the Cercle de l'imprimerie, de la librairie et de papeterie. It was lithographed by the Imprimerie Lemercier as part of L'Elegance mondaine.
Biographical/historical: This print may depict characters or a scene from Le beau Nicolas, an opéra-comique with text by Albert Vanloo and Eugène Leterrier and music by Paul Lacome. It was first presented at the Théâtre des Folies dramatiques, Paris, in 1880.
Biographical/historical: M. de Solar, whose full name may be Marie de Solar, was a printmaker active in France in the second half of the nineteenth century. The Bibliothèque National de France holds examples of her fashion and costume prints, including plates from the Parisian periodical L'Elegance mondaine.

Description
Portrayal of a woman and a man, possibly performers, in elaborately ornamented attire evocative of the early nineteenth century. The woman's cap, sleeves, and apron are replete with lace and ribbons. The man wears a lacy cravat, a short coat over a waistcoat, and pink-and-white striped knee breeches. Multiple ribbons in pink, blue, and green stream from his tall hat.
