Biographical/historical: Though attributed to Roberto Focosi, this music cover reproduces an image created by John Brandard, depicting a moment from Jules Perrot's ballet Catarina, ou la fille du bandit (music, Cesare Pugni). First performed at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, in 1846, the ballet's cast was led by the Danish ballerina Lucile Grahn in the title role, Perrot as her lieutenant Diavolino, and Louis Gosselin as the painter Salvator Rosa, an actual historical figure. Brandard's lithograph portrays Perrot and Grahn in a pas de deux from the ballet.
