CONTENTS. - Interview with Bill McCall. Recorded in Abingdon, Virginia, in August 1989. Speaking mainly from a musician's standpoint, McCall discusses square dancing, flatfooting, and social dancing during his youth and today. He describes two popular mixers of the region, Paul Jones and the broom dance. Reel 5A: 61 min. total. Camera turns off after 39 min.; the material that follows is a re-recording of earlier footage. Reel 5B: 18 min.

Content: Unedited footage recorded in southwestern Virginia by Appalshop, Whitesburg, Kentucky, for the videodocumentary Interweaving patterns (later retitled Step back Cindy), sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Directors: Anne Johnson and Susan Spalding.
Content: Part of a 16-cassette series containing unedited interview and dance footage. Although the interviews focus primarily on dance, they also cover a broad range of topics intended to fill in the socio-cultural background of the region.
