The choreographer was Jean-Baptiste Barré, whose name is sometimes given as Barrez.

Two female ballet dancers pose on pointe at the center of a female ensemble; around them are men and women costumed as jesters, royal personages, courtiers, and guards. A pavilion in the oriental style, garnished with palms and other exotic plants, forms the backdrop, with three parrots (the "perroquets" of the title) at left.
