Notes
Content: Note these details from left to right: The god Ammon-Ra is wearing a crown with two towering feathers on top. An altar made up of pillars is piled with offerings including a cattle head and haunch, as well as fruits and vegetables. The king holds two incense burners and a sheaf of papyrus stalks. A vulture spreads protective wings over the ruler's head. On the upper level, men are carrying a sculpture of the king burning incense, an incense burner, a jar of ointment, and two shrines or arks decorated with rows of sacred cobras. Below are more men carrying more shrines, incense burners and ointment pots, while the group at the front of the procession holds their hands in prayerful gestures or claps in celebration. The man in front of the first shrine shakes a rattle decorated with an animal's face.
Content: The name Amenophis is also rendered "Amenhotep" or Amunhotep". Ancient Egyptian writing indicated consonants, but not vowels, so any reconstruction of words written in hieroglyphs can only be an approximation of the real pronunciation.
Content: Printed below image: "Palais d'Aménophis III, salle des quatre colonnes, paroi ouest." [Palace of Amenophis III, Hall of the Four Columns, western inner wall.] Written under image: "Palace of Amenophis III - Luxor. Amenophis III, followed by priests and officers, brings offerings to the god Ammon-Ra, sitting on a throne. Among the offerings is a tiny figure of the king [upper row, center], burning incense."
