"The ruins of the tomb Mausolus, king of Caria, and Artemisia, his wife, have found their final resting-place in the British Museum, where portions of the statue of Mausolus and his wife, of the chariot and its horses, and of the columns form the central feature of one of the Galleries. The above sketch of the monument as it was when first set up illustrates the engineering skill possessed by the ancients. It has been reconstructed from the remains found and from the written records."--printed on border.
