Content: Sennacherib was the son of Sargon II. He ruled Assyria from 705 BC to 681 BC. He build a palace, canals, aqueducts and roads in his capital, Nineveh. During his reign he fought to maintain the empire established by his father. He defeated the Egyptians at Eltekeh in 701 BC, destroyed Judaean cities and besieged Jerusalem. He fought the Chaldaeans and the Elamites at the battle of Halulina c.691 BC. Two years later Sennacherib captured and destroyed Babylon. He was murdered by two of his sons as he worshiped in the temple of Nisroch.
