Content: "It was built by Tho. Howard Earl of Suffolk (Lord High Treasurer) in the reign of James I at the expence [sic] of £190,000, and called Audeley in memory of Chancellor Audeley, his grand-father. Only the model of it in wood (which came from Italy) cost £500."--lettered on border.
