Notes
Source note: Costumes of all nations : 123 plates, containing over 1500 coloured costume pictures by the first Munich artists. Grevel, 1913).
Content: Two Persian warriors and a nobleman. The soldiers wear tunics, trousers and soft caps (the one on the left in “Phrygian” style). Both have short swords, with bows (one in a case) and quivers. The man on the left also carries a spear. Their clothing and weapons both refer back to the Persians’ origins as a nomadic, horse-riding people. The nobleman wears long robes and a crown-like hat called a “tiara”. If the nobleman were carrying the spear with the round knob on the bottom, he’d look like one of the Persian king’s elite guards called the “Immortals”.
