Notes
Content: Printed on border: "The beautiful white winter fur of the ermine is obtained altogether from very cold countries, like Siberia and the Hudson's Bay territories. It is in demand in Europe not only for ladies' winter garments but for the robes of kings and nobles. In England it forms part of the robes of judges, its whiteness being considered typical of the purity which should mark their judicial actions. The tips of the tails remain a rich black, and in making up the fur they are inserted in a regular manner, so that they shall enhance by contrast the pure white of the rest of the fur." Includes additional text.
Source note: Animals and birds : or, feet and wings. (New York : McLonghlin Bros., [185-?]).
