Content: Schomburg copy negative #: SC-CN-82-0070; Caption on back: "Three Negro welders employed at the Fore River Yard of the Bethlehem Steel Company's plant at Quincy, Mass., were among the thousands of workers to witness the launching of the Destroyer Escort, the SS Harmon on July 25. The vessel was named for the late Leonard Roy Harmon, Mess Attendant First Class, who was awarded the Navy Cross posthumously for "Extraordinary Heroism" while serving aboard the USS San Francisco. The welders in the photo are James C. Toppin, Garfield P. White and Robert Fairhurst."
