Biographical/historical: Caption below photograph: "At the Brooklyn Work Experience Center, 980 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y., female youth worker is testing dimensions of the bolts produced in the machine shop. / The aim of the defense program is to enable young people to develop a single skill and to do a specific job such as operating a lathe, drill press, or a welder. In this manner, youth are equipped to contribute immediately to increased defense production when they are placed in private industry."
