Biographical/historical: Carl Van Vechten (1880-1964) was a writer, promoter of African-American artists during the Harlem Renaissance, patron of the arts, and photographer.
Biographical/historical: Gertrude Stein was an American poet, novelist, and essayist. Stein named her friend, the writer and photographer Carl Van Vechten, as her literary executor. Among other acts, he helped to usher into print works of hers that remained unpublished at the time of her death.
Biographical/historical: The Mother of Us All is a two-act opera composed by Virgil Thomson to a libretto by Gertrude Stein... The opera premiered on 7 May 1947 at Columbia University's Brander Matthews Hall... The opera centers around Susan B.
