Content: Gift of Samuel Putnam Avery, 1900. MN77, MN83, MN84 & MN88 bear notes by Henri-Charles Guerard and were presumably acquired from him by George A. Lucas, acting as S.P. Avery's agent. MN90 is inscribed by Manet and Mallarme to Arthur O'Shaughnessy; a note by S.P. Avery indicates that he purchased it "at D.G. Rossetti's sale July 7 1882."
Content: Holdings checked in departmental copies of Etienne Moreau-Nelaton, Manet graveur et lithographe and Jean C. Harris, Edouard Manet: graphic works a definitive catalogue raisonne.
Content: Lithographs by Manet, including covers for sheet music by Zacharie Astruc and Jerome Bosch. Subjects include a portrait of Berthe Morisot, a cafe, probably the Cafe Guerbois, children, a raven and a theater audience. One print is an illustration for Stephane Mallarme's translation of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.
