Biographical/historical: La péri (choreography, Jean Coralli; music, Friedrich Burgmüller; scenario, Théophile Gautier and Jean Coralli) was first presented at the Paris Opéra in 1843. This print probably depicts a moment from Act I, in which the hero Achmet (danced by Lucien Petipa) is entertained by the dancing of the women of the harem. It reverses the image seen in a music cover illustration attributed to "R.P.C." and has noticeable differences in drawing, shading, and cross-hatching.
